Just An Old Fashioned Love Song
It's a song! It's a show! It's a date!
The long awaited Tom Gentry arrangement of " Just An Old Fashioned Love Song" arrived, and according to those in the know, it is going to be great. We will be starting to learn it on Monday, and it will be both the opener and closer for our show of the same name. Everyone's favourite MC, Bill Fletcher, will be doing the honours again this year.
This is the first arrangement the chorus has commissioned, and it will be fun knowing that we are singing an arrangement that nobody else knows.
A preliminary order of performance has been decided. This is still subject to change until about 5 minutes before the performance J but you can count on this as being the content of the show in terms of what pieces we're singing: [Editor's Note: Changes are at the discretion of the Director and Show Committee. No complaints regarding these changes will be accepted or listened to by the editorial staff of the Mini-Pitch or its affiliates.]
The chorus will sing the songs with a bullet. Quartets will sing songs that are not part of current Chorus repertoire.
For Tonight Only (3 songs)
Key of Eh? (3 songs)
INTERMISSION
Metropolis (7 songs)
FINALE: Just an old fashioned love song
As Bert Brossoit revealed last week, the afterglow has been moved back to Dynastie de Chine (across from Bombardier on Laurentien Blvd.). The cost will be $16.00 per person. Those who were there two years ago will remember the food was great and plentiful.
Rob Mance says, "Mary Lou was put in instead of Gershwin because of time - and we only sang it on one show, three years ago. The Gershwin Medley is being saved for our show in two years time (you'll get a real learning tape for that, instead of the bad one you just got)."
Learn Roses, Words and Mary Lou!
We are coming quickly to the show. We have just about got Roses of Picardy, and Words. They are to be memorised by Monday. The next songs to learn are It's Just An Old Fashioned Love Song and Mary Lou. Since we have sung Mary Lou as a chorus, we should be able to relearn it fast. Our new members will be able to ask for additional assistance.
Harmony Inc. Area 2 AC&C
Next weekend (April 26-27), the Montreal Chapter of Harmony, Inc. will be hosting the Area 2 Convention & Contests (AC&C) at the Sheraton Laval hotel and Convention Centre. A varied selection of barbershop craft classes will be held Friday morning and afternoon and the Montreal Chapter extends a warm invitation to our members to attend these classes without having to buy an all-events pass. There will be two sets of classes in the morning and two sets in the afternoon, allowing an individual to take in four classes of 1-1/4 hours each. Cost of attending the day of classes is $20. Please visit http://www.harmonyarea2.org/acc/classes.html for further information and class descriptions.
The Quartet Contest will be held that evening at 6:30 p.m. with 18 quartets competing, including two from our chapter. Admission is $10 for adults.
The following afternoon the Chorus Contest will be held beginning at noon. Twelve choruses from the Northeastern United States, Eastern Ontario and Montreal will compete. This event is open to the public and admission is $10 for adults ($5 for children 16 and under).
We are all asked to help with the Harmony Inc. Area Contest and Convention. Since there will be an opportunity to enjoy a great barbershop weekend, I am sure you will want to be there. In addition, we will want to help them, since they will be helping us with International 2003.
Steve Wheaton has a sign up list. Please, join in the fun.
Program Notes:
It is time to get the show music in top shape. Let us have learned Roses, and Words by Monday. If you don't have a learning device, talk to Andrew Wheaton.
