Erin Howden rides again!
It will be a treat to be at the rehearsal on Monday. Erin Howden will be working with us on two songs. Orange Clored Sky and How Deep Is The Ocean will get Erin's treatment. It is a good bet that we will be singing with more involvement when Erin is through.
We will be starting at 7:00 PM, so please be there!
[Editor's excuse: I have to work Monday so won't arrive before 9:20 PM.]
International 2003 News.
Last Thursday, Steve Wheaton and Murray Phillips, the Convention co-chairmen met with John Schneider, SPEBSQSA Manager, Convention and Meetings and Lisa Cormier, Manager, Convention Services & Hospitality, Tourisme Montréal.
The convention planning manual was given to Steve and we are now in the know as to what needs to be done when.
Right now the logo for the convention is going through its final stages, with the SPEBSQSA headquarters making the final decision. The decision is imminent.
Once it is approved, we will be developing the volunteer apparel, the "I'm registered" button, a souvenir enamel pin and getting materials in place to start the sale of registrations. The sales will be made from Monday through Saturday at the Portland Convention.
John Schneider will be returning to Montreal in August and will be meeting with the Convention Committee at that time.
One thing we need immediately, is the name and availability of a large number of volunteers. This includes you! We will all be working the convention, and if you get to Steve now, you will have a choice of where and when you are going to work. See him soon.
We are also looking for a couple of Committee members, including a person who is willing to be Secretary. If you are interested in taking on one of these positions see Murray.
There is a preliminary web site with information on the Montreal International. The URL is http://www.nedistrict.org/montreal/international
We were reminded that all members and volunteers who wish to see any of the contests or events at which they are not working must purchase a convention registration. This is similar to the requirements of the District Convention.

We are all asked to help with the Harmony Inc. Area Contest and Convention. Since there will be an opportunity to enjoy a great barbershop weekend, I am sure you will want to be there.
In addition, we will want to help them, since they will be helping us with International 2003.
Steve Wheaton has a sign up list. Please, join in the fun

Ice Cream, Ice Cream, ….
From a post to the H@rmonet by Timothy F. Fagan. The Ice Cream tag is the introduction of the School Board to barbershop singing in "The Music Man."
In the original score, the song is in the key of A, and the tune-up chord is (saying, er, SINGing "Ice Cream"):
Bass: A
Bari: E
Lead: C#
Tenor: A (2 octaves above bass)
The next three chords, singing the words "Ice Cream" each time, are directly out of Barbershop 101 chord progressions (spelled from the bass up):
B-A-D#-F# (B7, or II7)
E-B-D-G# (E7, or V7)
A-E-C#-A (I)
Textbook example of jumping to II7 and working back to I through the circle of fifths.
Program Notes:
We are working presentation with Erin Howden on Orange Colored Sky and How Deep is the Ocean.
Rob will provide the April schedule soon!.
