Repertoire Update.
Alan Kenley has provided the updated repertoire list. Some of the songs we have received on the Learning Devices have been put on hold for the time being. "That's a Plenty" and "Fascinatin' Rhythm" are a bit ambitious for us right now.
"Roses of Picardy" and "If I Had My Way Dear" have been selected for our Division Competition songs. We will be getting the latter very soon.
The songs on our Christmas List are the same as last year, so we will be polishing, rather than learning, although after a year there will be a very short learning period.
We have several singouts including a return to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Cheese for sale!
The Cheese Sale for Christmas is nearly over. If your company gives Christmas presents, the cheese boxes are a great gift. The orders must be in tonight.
A percentage of ALL the sales you make will be accumulated in your account and can be applied to the Fall Forward, costumes, etc.
Take Care of Your Voice! (Part 3)
David Epstein, MD,
Wilmington, Del., Chapter discusses care of the voice when you are ill.Last issue, I wrote about things to do every day to keep your voice healthy. Now I want to suggest some ways to protect your voice if you become ill.
If you have hoarseness or cough lasting more than a couple of weeks, see a doctor right away. If he or she can't diagnose the problem, ask for a referral to an Ear-Nose-and-Throat surgeon who specialises in voice problems (not all do). Ask the doctor if you have "chronic reflux," a much under-diagnosed condition in which stomach contents flow up your oesophagus while you're asleep and irritate your larynx. You may have reflux if you wake up hoarse or with a sore throat each morning, or cough a lot at night. (Other conditions can also do these things.) The treatment usually consists of elevating the head of your bed, antacids, never eating immediately before sleep, and avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and spicy food. I hope you don't have "reflux"-life becomes very dull!
If you have diabetes, take good care of it. The fluid shifts caused by changing blood-sugar levels may give you fluctuating swelling in your vocal cords.
The hints from Dr. Sataloff that I have passed on in these three articles will, I hope, help keep your voice healthy. The four basic principles are:

Keep Rudi in your thoughts.
Rudi Flaig is fighting hard. He appreciates the phone calls he has received, the kind thoughts and the prayers as well.
International News
The Steering Committee and Committee Chairmen met with John Schneider on Thursday to review progress. The FAM Trip was Friday to Sunday, and most of the chorus reps attended and we collected preliminary information on them.
The tour of hotels and facilities went very well. The Chorus reps were impressed with the city, hotels and facilities.
We are still collecting the names and preferences of as many other volunteers as possible.
Do you have friends, relatives, co-workers or acquaintances who would be interested in seeing what goes on at the International Convention? Volunteers do not have to be members of the Society.
Many people have offered their assistance in a general way, and will be available where needed.
Email requests have been sent to the Northeastern District and will be sent to the Ontario District as well.
A total of about 400 volunteer days are required.
All volunteers who wish to see any part of the contests MUST purchase a registration package.
Registrants (before January 1, 2003) will pay $100.00 US. Use the web link to register.
