What happens if rules are broken.
At the Far Western District Chorus Contest there was a shocking development. A group of young men who had formed a chorus under the banner of the Westminster Chapter went to the contest with many dual members and at least one transferred member. They won the contest, but were disqualified due to eligibility problems of several members, costing them the title and a trip to Montreal to sing on the International Stage.
As the Chairman of the C&J, Lou Benedict, said in the ruling on the appeal: "There was not just one membership rules violation. A significant percentage of the performing Westminster chorus was ineligible under current rules, which require dual members joining after a contest cycle has begun to petition for a waiver from the District C&J Vice President at least thirty days before the contest. According to Kenosha records, eight singers joined Westminster as dual members from another chorus or choruses months after the FWD cycle started in March."
What does this mean to us? Make sure that you have paid your dues, and that your membership in the chapter is clear.
Keep Rudi in your thoughts.
Rudi Flaig is going for daily radiation treatments. They leave him very tired, but Rudi appreciates the phone calls he has received, and I am sure he appreciates the kind thoughts and the prayers as well.

International News
Representatives of the International Committee visited Harmony, Inc. and Sweet Adelines West Island asking for help. Each group we open and offered us help
The first area of concern is the requirement for 25 chorus hosts (or hostesses.) We already have a group of volunteers, and Jerry Silverberg is Chairman of Competitor Services. He is working with Alan Kenley, Manpower Procurement, Addie Tauchner-Wheaton, Ladies Hospitality and Murray Phillips, Co-Chairman to fill out the list in time for the hosts and hostesses to meet with the Chorus Managers during the FAM Trip, which will take place November 15 and 16. At the same time we are collecting the names and preferences of as many other volunteers as possible.
Email requests have been sent to the Northeastern District and will be sent to the Ontario District as well.
A total of about 400 volunteer days are required.
All volunteers who wish to see any part of the contests MUST purchase a registration package.
Registrants (before January 1, 2003) will pay $100.00 US. Use the web link to register.
