South Side Second!

Congratulations to Richard Frenette, Andrew Wheaton, Denis Laflamme and Ron Gaug on a wonderful performance in Lake Placid. They placed second in a tight contest, and moved up from fourth on Friday evening.

The quartet looked and sounded like they belonged with the Big Boys. South Side did themselves proud and will be attending the NED Top Gun School in February.

Next stop International Prelims in Peabody, MA, where they will try to qualify for the Big Stage in the Centre Bell.

Rehearsal is at the Citadel.

If you are reading this, then you will be at the right place on Monday at 7:30 PM, or you have already arrived at the right place.

If you are reading this before Monday evening, and you are talking with anyone who doesn't receive email, remind him that we are at the Citadel.

Sell those ads and sell those tickets. Bring in your money for Monday evening. Order your afterglow tickets! They must be ordered in advance.

District Contest was a mini-show.

Despite the early hour at which most of us got up last Saturday morning, we had a fun time in Lake Placid, New York.

As we had not participated in the Division contests, we were not able to qualify for District, but we were invited to sing as Mike Testers.

With Rob Mance in the pit, Morgan LaCroix led us on to the stage. Since there turned out to be some lighting problems, we got to perform a lot more than if we were normal mike testers. Our mini-show was well received.

The contest was a good one with Nashua, NH coming first, Narragansett Bay, RI second and Portland, ME third.

Rob Mance will be filling us in on the House of Delegates meeting where he was our representative on Friday afternoon. Apparently the experiment continues!

Boston Common Show, November 2!

November 2, 2002 is the date; we will be performing in the Salvation Army Citadel, on Drummond Street and we have the tickets. Get yours from John Clendenning. All seats are General Admission and cost $20 CDN ($13 US). We only have 300 tickets for sale!

Bring in money for tickets and the afterglow

The afterglow will be at Indianas American Diner & Bar, 2001 University Street, Montréal, QC H3A 2A6. It is within walking distance (about 6 blocks) from the Citadel. The cost will be $12.00 and will include a meal. Drinks will be priced reasonably.

We parking will be available in the Alcan Building (connected to the Salvation Army Citadel) at $6.00.

The Island City Chorus will be singing:

1) Orange Colored Sky

2) Old Black Magic

3) Witchcraft

4) Sixteen tons

5) You'll Never Walk Alone

6) Steppin' Out

We will sing the following with the Sweet Adeline's:

1) Let There Be Peace On Earth

2) And So To Sleep Again

We are also preparing a program, so get in touch with your advertisers and get an order. This project will help both our choruses musically and financially.

Keep Rudi in your thoughts.

Rudi Flaig is going for daily radiation treatments. They leave him very tired, but Rudi appreciates the phone calls he has received, and I am sure he appreciates the kind thoughts and the prayers as well.

Cheese and Chocolate for sale!

Chocolate Bars or Chocolate Covered Almonds are here to be picked up and sold. People really enjoy the Hershey's quality, so they are easy to sell.

The Cheese Sale for Christmas has started. If your company gives Christmas presents, the cheese boxes are a great gift. Pick up an order form and catalogue.

A percentage of ALL the sales you make will be accumulated in your account and can be applied to the Fall Forward, costumes, etc.

International News

Flo Ragusa, Chair of the Ladies Hospitality Committee, was very visible to delegates to this weekends District Convention and Contest. She had a booth and was did a great job raising money and taking contributions.

The FAM Trip is coming up on November 15, and the winning choruses all know who they are. We will receive the information very soon. We know that the 2003 NED representative is Nashua's Granite Statesmen, once again.

The first area of concern is the requirement for 25 chorus hosts (or hostesses.) We already have a group of volunteers, and Jerry Silverberg is Chairman of Competitor Services. He will be working to fill out the list in time for the hosts and hostesses to meet with the Chorus Managers during the FAM Trip, which will take place November 15 and 16. At the same time we are collecting the names and preferences of as many other volunteers as possible.

Many people have offered their assistance in a general way, and will be available where needed.

Email requests have been sent to the Northeastern District and will be sent to the Ontario District as well.

A total of about 400 volunteer days are required.

All volunteers who wish to see any part of the contests MUST purchase a registration package.

Registrants (before January 1, 2003) will pay $100.00 US. Use the web link to register.
