Xylophataquieopiaphobia, the fear of mispronouncing words.
Special Membership Seminar.
On Saturday, February 28, the Montreal Island City Chorus has invited Bill Lyles (past Membership VP of the Vocal Majority and currently a member of the Virginians) to Montreal to hold a one day session on his Membership Orientation and Development Program.
Alan Kenley, our membership VP has invited other chapters to join us and we will have between 25 and 50 people participating.
Bill has developed an excellent program, which has been successfully incorporated into the Vocal Majority chorus, and he has agreed to make this available to all of us both in a written format as well as presenting it to us in a one-day session in Montreal. We are all looking to increase as well as retain our current membership and I am sure Bill's program will go a long way in helping us achieve our 2004 objectives.
The meeting will begin at 10.00 AM and end at 5.00 PM. Lunch will be served from the menu at each individuals expense.
The session will take place at the Cote St. Luc Barbecue on Cote de Liesse, corner of Hickmore (The same place as the Installation Dinner.).
If you are interested in attending this very informative session please let Alan Kenley know as soon as possible.
Chorus featured in The Gazette.
Bob Ebers got a great recruiting article in the West Island Section of last Thursday's Montreal Gazette. The pictures taken by Marc Stein came out well, and we looked good.
Let's welcome some new members.
Men In Black to Burlington, VT.
Men In Black (NED 2003 College Champs) defeated all opposition in the International Championship of College A Cappella quarterfinals in Hartford, CT. They move on to the semi-finals. The performance information is as follows:
Friday, March 5th at the Ira Iran Chapel, 26 University Place, Main Campus, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT, 7:30 PM; Doors open at 7:00 PM.
The audience response has a lot to do with the judges' scoring in this system. Wear your MIB pins!
Show time is coming.
May 29 is Show Time! Have you sold any ads yet? How about tickets? Have you thought about people you would like to invite to see you do "that thing you do on Monday nights?"
We should be able to sell out the Salle Pierre Mercure, and have a great program. Give ticket money to Ray Watkins.
The Ten Vocal Commandments
Details as promised in a previous issue.
VI to X this issue. For full details:
http://YouCanSingwithImpact.comSorry, that means no chocolate or ice cream, among some other great tasting foods. These products cause the mucous membrane lining of the vocal cords to create a great deal of mucous that covers your vocal cords. In case you can't guess or don't already know, that makes it very hard to sing well.
We suggest eating right, exercising regularly (don't forget that cardiovascular work to improve your breathing!), and taking a quality vitamin supplement each and every day! Remember, a singer's body is his instrument! A finely tuned and maintained instrument will perform at a much higher level than an instrument that has been neglected.
If you were running in a marathon, would you begin without stretching your hamstrings? Of course not. Doing this would risk reduced performance and possible cramping that would take you completely out of the race. The muscles associated with the voice organ would appreciate the same courtesy. Just like those hamstrings, your voice will reward you for taking the time to properly warm up before strenuous use.
The YOU can SING with IMPACT, Daily Warm-up Workout, Volume I, is the program you need for consistent yet fun daily warm-ups and exercises.
Smiling not only helps with tone placement of the singing voice, it also improves your attitude! Try it! It really works. It's infectious too!
Sing for fun, sing because you love it, sing because you can. Share your voice with the world and enjoy your journey, as you become a SINGER OF IMPACT!
Herd of Cows?
A young man visiting a dude ranch wanted to look macho,so he went out walking with one of the hired hands.
As they were walking through the barnyard, the visitor tried to begin a conversation, "Say, look at that big bunch of cows."
The hired hand replied, "Not 'bunch,' but 'herd.'"
"Heard what?"
"Herd of cows."
"Sure, I've heard of cows...there's a big bunch of 'em right over there."
