March 14 Interchapter night.

We will be celebrating our 55^th anniversary next Monday evening and we will have the members of the St. Lambert (South Shore) Chapter with us, as well as any guests you would like to invite.

Our actual Anniversary date is Sunday, March 13, but since Monday is a much better time, we are celebrating then.

Bob Ebers has been working on some publicity for this landmark anniversary, and we hope to see the fruits of his labours in our newspapers.

We have been asked to participate in a show following the contests in Brattleboro, VT. We will compete, then eat, then entertain, then leave for home.

The show will start at 7:30 PM, and we will be on early in the show so we can take the bus back and arrive late Saturday or early Sunday Morning.

Want to know the secret of being a successful chorus director…who doesn’t. Well, students at Directors College were asked to, "List three habits of successful chorus directors." Below are some of the responses:

• They are specifically positive
• They constantly seek to educate themselves
• They rely on what they hear
• Plan rehearsals – come in with a plan every week based on the needs perceived from the previous week.
• Listening – Always work to train your ear to accurately identify music problems
• Education – Always looking for new ways to educate your members on how to be better singers.
• Energetic and positive, even when you don’t feel like it.
• Recognise that the music tells a story.
• Practice outside of rehearsal
• Set goals for each rehearsal as well as for long range planning
• Devour all you can that is available (for self-improvement) video, articles, books, etc.

How would you answer the question for Rob? I think he could add even a few more of his own successful habits. We are some lucky guys!

There is no time like the present to try your hand at singing with three other guys in a quartet. We have started the Barber Pole Cat program again, and all members who are interested in learning, or helping to teach are welcome.

We started on Monday, February 28 at 7:00 PM, and will be continuing for the foreseeable future.

Our Show Chairman extraordinaire, Bert Brossoit has given out show tickets to those who pre-ordered, and he is ready to provide as many as you need.

Alan Kenley has agreed to be the advertising co-ordinator, and we need to talk to companies, our dentist, barber, you name it. Lets fill the program with business card ads, quarter pages, half pages… well you get the idea.

This will be a joint show, with the West Island Sweet Adeline Chorus and will feature Commonly Unique and our 2004 International Quartet Champions, Gotcha!.

Send a blank email to iccshow-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and they will be registered to get updates on shows and performances, and possibly last minute specials.

This list will only be used for sending notices, and they will only receive two or three messages a year, announcing shows or performances.

Barbershop Harmony Society Canadian Exchange rate for first quarter 2005 is $1.2340

Canadian members have the option of writing a check and paying in Canadian dollars at a designated exchange rate or charging their credit card for the U.S. amount. Canadian members are able to pay their Society and district dues directly to headquarters in Canadian funds; chapter dues will be paid directly to their chapter.

Merchandise can be ordered from Harmony Marketplace in the same way.

Rates change in February, May, August and November.
