If God wanted me to touch my toes, He’d have put them on my knees.

Saturday was "A Night to Remember!"

Thanks to those that worked hard to make this a great show. The Island City Chorus, Backstage Pass, Ardesco and Vocal Spectrum made some great music. Our MC, Derek Seguin was terrific, amusing and kept us on time. As we felt, many of our patrons said, "This was your best show, ever!"

Everyone performed extremely well, but special kudos go to Drew Wheaton for filling in on baritone with Backstage Pass and for his solo in What Child is This/Child of the Poor.

Rob Mance gets to go out on a high. The chorus has never sounded better.

Bert Brossoit wants your ticket money and Murray Phillips wants your ad money.

Bob Ebers got us some great publicity with several spots on Global TV. We did pick up a number of walk-in ticket sales, and some badly needed revenue, because of his efforts.

Our guest artists were terrific with Ardesco charming the audience with their energetic and smooth performance. Vocal Spectrum showed why they are ranked #2 going into this year’s International Contest. These guys are great ambassadors of our art form, and the shots of them on Global TV surely helped our cause as well.

Disappointments. Editorial

"We have budgeted to make a profit on this year’s show – something we haven’t done for the past four years." You have been reading that for several weeks. It is unlikely to happen. Why? Lack of participation.

Earlier this year, many of us signed a commitment contract with the Chapter. In it, we promised to do a number of things, including "I commit to participate actively on one or more committees of the Chapter and to do my share in the work of the Chapter." Ask yourself if you truly did that for the show. Congratulations, if you can say yes.

Where did everyone go after the show? We had ordered pizza, beer and wine based on the members of the chapter attending. We needed help to clear the room after the afterglow. We needed help to take down the risers. Some people had indicated that they could not stay, but most just vanished.

The show was a success, but our responsibility to the chapter leaves something to be desired.

Next time…

Whoever takes on the job of Show Chairman next year should make sure that everyone is committed to making the show a profitable success. We can’t afford artistic successes that are financial failures.

The sale of ads and tickets is not an impossible task. A volunteer who will follow up with individual members to see if they have leads, and make contact would help a great deal.

Show Email List

Well, there was an idea that bombed. 500 sheets were available for people to sign up for our show email list.

Not one was completed.

Thank You, Addie!

A special thank you goes to Addie Tauchner Wheaton for her tireless work on our behalf. She prepared and served a delicious supper for the chorus. She ordered the pizza and ensured its deliver for the Afterglow and purchased all the beer, wine, soft drinks, plates, etc. as well

Remember: If you recruit 5 members this year, your International, District and Chapter dues for 2007 are 100% fully paid!

Sing it with the Brigades at Indy

Too Much Sittin’—Not Enough Singin’? Take the Xtreme Quartetting cure.

What: A Freelance Quartetters Hospitality Suite devoted exclusively to quartetting medallist-level arrangements!

Where: The State Room off the lobby at the HQ Westin Hotel in Indy

When: Starting Wednesday, July 5th every night after last session and at gap times during the days—hours will be posted on the door!

Let’s live our dreams and emulate our heroes! Wanna quartet "Too Marvelous for Words" (Michigan Jake) or "Creole Cutie" (Confederates) or "Once Upon a Time" (Keepsake) or "Lazy Bones" (Four Voices) or "Blackbird Medley" (Dealers Choice) or "I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad" (Power Play) or "Sentimental Gentleman from Georgia" (Revival) or "I Can Dream Can’t I" (Bluegrass Student Union) or "Birth of the Blues" (BSQ) or "Live Till I Die", "Lover Come Back", "If I Only Had a Brain", "Mona Lisa", "Who’ll Take my Place", "Louise"…you get the picture!

WOOOOOWWWW!!! Who’s sponsoring this incredible activity? The North Carolina, Indiana and Atlantic Harmony Brigades—the guys who specialize in Extreme Quarteting—are jointly sponsoring and well over a hundred Brigaders are participating. Most Brigaders know between 15 and 50 arrangements as sung by medalists, and the Hospitality Suite will be staffed with all four parts. How about "Shine" (Gas House Gang) or "Slap That Bass" (Bluegrass) or "I’m Alone Because I Love You" (Boston Common) or "If There’s Anybody Here" (Most Happy Fellows) or "Royal Garden Blues" (Gotcha)—and by now we hope this paragraph has "gotcha" headed to the stereo to learn a few! Let’s sing!!
