Change is inevitable, except from vending machines.
Welcome to our rehearsal.
I hope that we are meeting a lot of new people tonight, and that you enjoy your time with us.
We plan to make this evening a fun experience, and entice you to return repeatedly.
Barbershop harmony is four-part, a cappella music, that is it is unaccompanied music with the melody in the second tenor and with the objective of creating a locked and ringing chord. We hope you get to experience the sound and the feeling here, tonight!
Who are we?
The Greater Montreal Chapter is part of the Mountain Division of the Northeastern District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We compete first at our Division Contest in March or April to qualify for our District Contest in October. If we are able to win the District Competition, we are then able to go and compete in the International Chorus Contest held the first week in July.
So far, we haven’t been able to win the District, but our singing quality has been improving every year, and we are confident that with several new singers, we will be able to improve to the point where a win at the District level is not only possible, but inevitable.
There are 16 Districts in the Barbershop Harmony Society. Many are perennial powerhouses in our hobby and for us to think about winning at the International level is beyond our current potential.
So, does the idea of singing with a group of friends that help and support each other, appeal to you? If it does, you may have found your way into the best hobby in the world for a singer.
Welcome, and enjoy the evening.
