New Mountain Division Email List
The folks that help make things run better have developed a list to which members with email can subscribe. If you have given you email address to International, you may already be on the list. If not, you should probably do two things. First, let International know your correct email address, then second, subscribe to the NEDMountain list.
To do the first job, get on the Web and go to https://www.spebsqsa.org/members/securitylogin.asp. If you have a password already, you can go into the site and correct information about yourself. If you don't have a password go to https://www.spebsqsa.org/members/addme.asp.
To do the subscribing part, all you need to do is send a blank email to:
NEDMountain-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
The moderator will set you up and then you will receive occasional messages of importance about the Mountain Division. To get off the list, follow the instructions at the bottom of each message.
Sad news
Terry Meehan passed along this message.
"John Kruse passed away on Wednesday evening. John was a barbershopper that Mike Cassidy brought in. He was with the chorus for about a year and took sick. I guess it has been 4 or 5 years now.
"The funeral is Monday at 11:00 from St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Pointe Claire. I don't believe there is visitation other than an hour before the service.
"John was a jolly fellow, had a real tough time singing, but loved the group and he was always made to feel important. He often said how much he missed it, although he knew he had a hard time with the singing.
"He has gone through a lot and is now at peace."
Changes in Division Contest!?
The NED board is contemplating cutting the number of contests held in the District. They are planning to match divisions.
Although the awards and championships will be kept separate, we will be competing with the other division. Currently the board wants to match the Mountain division with the Yankee division.
This means our Division contest will be held on April 19th and 20th in conjunction with the Spring Prelims being held in Manchester Connecticut.
Steve Wheaton is trying to get them to reconsider and match us with Granite and Pine and find a midpoint such as Hanover, NH which is a maximum 3.5 hours for any chapter in the 2 Divisions.
Manchester, CT is 6 hours from Montreal.
Get ready for the new dues payment system!
Starting this month, members are responsible for paying their own International and District Dues directly to SPEBSQSA International. Murray Phillips has requested a bunch of copies of the credit card authorisation form. This will permit SPEBSQSA to charge your credit card each month for 1/12th of your dues. If you provide your debit card number, they can take the amount directly from your bank account.
This will make the payment easy for you and for them.
Chapter dues are payable the first Monday of each month.
Starting on August 6, 2001, each regular member will be required to pay $15.00 per month in Chapter Dues.
Students and Seniors will pay $7.50 per month.
Cheques should be made out to "Island City Chorus," and given to the Treasurer, Ray Watkins.
Great Northern Harmony Workshop 2002
We have a confirmation from Déja Vu that they will be coming to the school on February 2, 2002. That is Joker's Wild with a new tenor.
For coaching we will have Road Show, Club NED, and Northeast Connection, all of whom are great coaches. That gives the current count of 16. Steve Wheaton has contacted others and is waiting for confirmation.
Jim Dodge has contacted Steve about inserting the Singing A’s program for the Mountain Division into the school. I told him we would have to work out the details but he would have to guarantee that there will be no additional costs to the school and perhaps even some savings would be appreciated.
Plan to attend Portland 2002!
Since we are hosts for 2003, we will be in need of a good number of people in Portland to help sell registrations and to promote Montreal as a destination.
We were evident in Nashville, pinned a number of barbershoppers and gave out a large pile of literature and maps of Montreal.
Make your plans NOW and plan to be in Portland next July.
Montreal 2003 planning is underway
Please check the list of jobs to ensure that your name is on the list in a place where you will be comfortable working for the week of the International convention and also in a job you would like to help out at leading up to the convention.
Walk about costume in the works.
Jerry Silverberg is in the process of obtaining quotes and samples of a polo shirt and pants costume for the chorus. These will incorporate our chorus logo and will be available for singouts, conventions, etc.
Who do you know that wants to hire singers?
We are looking for paid singouts. The chorus has budgeted for several singouts before the end of this year.
We know we will be doing Christmas and Chanukah Singouts, but If you know people in companies, seniors residences, running conventions, etc. the Island City Chorus will be pleased to provide a quotation for entertainment.
Please contact Alan Kenley. Do NOT make arrangements yourself.
