Music Team News Alan Kenley, VP, Music and Performance

RETREAT

Although we ended up under pressure to get the retreat on the road all's well that ends well. Adam Woods was a great coach and we all appreciated his input into our presentation package. I am certain everyone who attended learned a great deal over the weekend and it is already beginning to show results.

The retreat will probably cost the chorus between $200.00 and $300.00 . We needed the payment of three members who committed to attend and didn't show in order to break even.In any event it is not a serious financial loss. We will have to do better next time.

Attendance was a bit of a disappointment but we just started too late to get a commitment from each of the members. We'll work harder and earlier at it next year.

PERFORMANCE TEAM

The appointment of Andrew Wheaton as head of the presentation team along with Michael Frolic and Alan Mackenzie as support is a terrific addition to the music team.

Andrew will be responsible for implementing our performance package. Michael will work with new members making sure they are up to the level of the chorus and Alan and Michael will work with each of the rows to insure that we are all doing the same thing at the same time. This is an area we have long avoided dealing with and I am excited about what the chorus will look like in a month or two if we give these guys our full support.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR(S)

I have discussed our assistant director need with Rob for some time now and asked him to approach Morgan to take on the task along with Steve Wheaton. He will discuss this with her and if she agrees he will present it to the Board for approval.

It is critical that we fill this position and at the present time we have no one else in our chorus that is capable of doing the job. Let's discuss.

CHRISTMAS/CHANUKAH SINGOUTS

John Hatfield is doing a great job booking our Christmas singouts and we have a full program again this year. Alan Mackenzie is also working with Via Rail to book their Christmas party. We missed it last year due to timing.Overall we should achieve our financial goals established for this project. In addition to singing for our audiences, we will have the additional goal of selling our Christmas CD at our public appearances.

That's all for the Music Team

Your October Chapter dues are overdue.

Montreal 2003 planning is underway

Please check the list of jobs to ensure that your name is on the list in a place where you will be comfortable working for the week of the International convention. Have you signed up to take that week as vacation? Do it now!

Add These To Your Vocabulary

DISCONFECT (dis kon fekt') v. To sterilize the piece of candy you dropped on the floor by blowing on it, assuming this will somehow 'remove' all the germs.

ELBONICS (el bon' iks) n. The actions of two people maneuvering for one armrest in a movie theater or on an airplane.

FRUST (frust) n. The small line of debris that refuses to be swept onto the dust-pan and keep backing a person across the room until he/she finally decides to give up in frustration and sweeps it under the rug.

LACTOMANGULATION (lak' to man guy lay' shun) n. Manhandling the "open here" spout on a milk container so badly that one has to resort to the 'illegal' side.

PHONESIA (fo nee' zhuh) n. The affliction of dialing a phone number and forgetting whom you were calling just as they answer.

PUPKUS (pup'kus) n. The moist residue left on a window after a dog presses its nose to it.

Program Notes:

Rob Mance has provided the program for the full month, and promises to have the program for the following month before the end of this month.

Please make sure that you have reviewed all the music that we will be singing this week and the presentation plan for each song, so that we are always in performance mode. We are singing well. Let's make sure that the audience sees us at our best in all areas!

Feet, knees, shoulders, tongue, head. Remember what to do with each, and do it before each song we sing.
