"Give each note equal value and you are dead."

"If only part of the chorus is involved, it is devastating to the scores.

We remember!

As we continue to share the grief and sorrow of our American Brothers, this news from Society headquarters. It is a small miracle that we only know of one member to lose his life in the terrible events of September 11, 2001

Canfield D. (Bud) Boone

Colonel, United States Army National Guard

February 2, 1948 - September 11, 2001

The barbershop family is deeply saddened by the death of Canfield "Bud" Boone, who was killed in the attack on the Pentagon, Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The U.S. Army confirmed his identification Thursday. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his entire family.

We are grieved by the death of our brother in harmony, yet we can offer a thankful prayer that more Society members were not lost in the terrible events of September 11. The potential for that was enormously high. We extend our condolences to the members of the Centreville, Virginia Chapter, as they bid farewell to one of their own. Bud Boone was a first-year member of the Society.

At your next chapter meeting, please consider singing a song in Bud Boone's honor and memory, and hold his family-- wife Linda, and children Chris, Andy and Jason -- in your thoughts and prayers.

May we all find strength and courage in the fellowship of our beloved Society. May peace and harmony prevail throughout our land and the world.

Fall Forward last weekend!

The Cap St Jacques facility proved to be a great location once again. Thanks to everyone who made the weekend a sparkling success. To those who weren't there, Why NOT!

Adam Woods is presentation judge and member of this year's Gold Medal winning chorus New Tradition. He was our coach and he made some excellent things start to happen. It is now up to us to make sure it continues to happen and grow. Thanks to Adam for a great work out! We all learned a bunch of very useful things.

If you were unable to attend the weekend Fall Forward, make sure that you find out what you need to do to catch up. We made enormous progress, and we need you to get up to speed as soon as you can, so that the whole ensemble can continue to progress.

We needed volunteers to help prepare and serve the meals and special thanks goes to Martha Mance, Marge Schurman, Liz Mance, Christine Starke and Moyra Small. Martha was instrumental in the meal planning, food purchasing and preparation, with help from the other ladies. Thanks also to our breakfast chefs, Ernie Chappell and Jerry Silverberg..

What will everyone remember of the weekend? How about the burned bagel fire alarm, the food, or Ron Dawson's dash to the Animatrice, the food, or Bert Brossoit's snore during the Chorus Tape, the food, tags till 1:15 am, the food, Adam's animated face, the food, and oh yes, the food.

CD Recording Next Monday

We will be recording our Christmas CD, September 24, 2001: Tonight.

We will be putting the following three songs on the CD.

If you are on time, you will be there at 7:00 pm.

We should ready to sing, so we can complete our warm-ups and travel to the studio.

The studio is small and very warm, with 30 some people in it, cool heads are required.

Cabaret - October 13.

Two weeks ago, you received a food item to prepare, and 5 tickets for the Cabaret. This is a fund-raiser, and the tickets are $15 each. We will be providing food, entertainment and dancing, and if we all pitch in, it should be a great deal of fun.

Offer your services to Jerry Silverberg.

Montreal 2003 planning is underway

Please check the list of jobs to ensure that your name is on the list in a place where you will be comfortable working for the week of the International convention.

Who wants to hire singers?

We are looking for paid singouts. If you know people in companies, seniors' residences, running conventions, etc. the Island City Chorus will be pleased to provide a quotation for entertainment. As you know, we are a very entertaining group that provides a professional package for a reasonable price. All we need is an appreciative audience to enjoy what we do!

Please contact Alan Kenley. Do NOT make arrangements yourself.

September Dues are Due - NOW!

Starting in July 2001, each member is responsible for paying his own International and District Dues directly to SPEBSQSA International. Chapter dues are paid monthly to Ray Watkins. Your September dues are due.

Canadian members have the option of writing a check and paying in Canadian dollars at a designated exchange rate or charging their credit card for the U.S. amount, and are able to pay their Society and district dues directly to headquarters in Canadian funds. The exchange rate for the third quarter is 1.5381.

Program Notes:

Please arrive on time. We will have a full evening, and we want to make our guests have a good time.
