COMING UP - OPTIONAL, BUT FUN and EDUCATIONAL EVENTS

November 15, 2002 Meet the Chorus Managers International FAM Trip for competing choruses (Hosts ONLY!)

Believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts.

Singout September 9, 2002

We have been invited to sing at John Hatfield's Church (Westminster Presbyterian at the corner of Gouin Blvd. and Monk) in Pierrefonds.

We will be fed dinner and will sing for the folks. Then we will have our regular rehearsal there at the Presbyterian Church.

Please arrive between 6:00 and 6:15 PM for dinner, wearing our Summer Uniform. This will be the first chance we have had to wear it as a chorus.

Rudi Flaig says, "Hi, everyone."

I was talking with Shirley and Rudi on Saturday. Rudi told me that the operation on his nose wasn't healing as well as hoped. He will be starting radiation treatments soon. He appreciates receiving calls. His number is 684-6009.

Boston Common is coming!

November 2, 2002 is the date; we will be performing in the Salvation Army Citadel, on Drummond Street and tickets will be available soon.

We will be sharing the show with the West Island Sweet Adeline Chorus. Each chorus will sing six songs and we will have two which we will perform together.

The costs for the show will also be shared, as will the profits.

Boston Common members will all be accompanied by their wives, so we should have a great show and they will have a great time. We will show them a preview of Montreal 2003 hospitality.

What's in a name?

An article in the Nor'Easter prompted an exchange on the NED List, and the essence is repeated here.

The Board of the Society has wrestled with the idea of changing the name of Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America Inc., (SPEBSQSA), but for many good reasons that will remain our legal name. There is a less formal name that we are encouraged to use when talking about the Society to anyone.

Rather than trying to make the abbreviation into a word, we should use, "Barbershop Harmony Society."

Fund Raising

Jerry Silverberg is ready to receive orders for those great Chocolate Bars or Chocolate Covered Almonds. Yum!

He is also getting ready to start the Cheese Sale for Christmas. The project will start in October.

Don't forget, a percentage of ALL the sales you make will be accumulated in your account and can be applied to the Fall Forward, costumes, etc.

International News

All volunteers who wish to see any part of the contests MUST purchase a registration package.

Registrants (before January 1, 2003) will pay $100.00 US. Use the web link to register.

The Steering Committee will meet on Thursday, September 9, and Committee Chairmen will send a brief progress report out to other members at least one week in advance.

Nearly all of the Chairman have been found, and have started getting their activities under control.

What is my job?

If you are wondering, "What did I sign up for?" or "Did I sign up yet?" or even "Where do I sign up?" Here is the answer. Steve Wheaton has a list, and will be pleased to put you in a spot where you will feel comfortable. See him tonight!

The other option is you get assigned to parking lot duty.

Prizes for Ladies Hospitality still needed.

The Ladies Hospitality Room will be open for all of our female guests starting on Monday, and each day there is a drawing for prizes donated by local chapters, companies, etc. If you know of any place where we can get small, nice prizes please let Murray or Steve know.

NOTE: We are looking for a Chairman of Tour Volunteers. This is to organise the volunteer force required to ensure that the buses get loaded and the right people get on the buses for the various tours that are being arranged by Lucy Schneider, the Tour Chairman.

Set up those risers, Leads.

Please lend a hand where you can.

A joke?

Once a year, the collectors of antique tents in Germany get together for a rally. Last year, the organizers decided to hold it in Meinz.

Unfortunately, the local burghers took a dim view of so great an influx of tourists ruining their turf with tent pegs. The citizens opposed to the rally organized themselves so efficiently that they even had an anthem: "Let Old and Quaint Tents Be Forgot and Never Brought to Meinz!"

Here is our current and future repertoire list:
