National Anthems at the Ball Game?

We have an opportunity to sing the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems at Olympic Stadium on Monday, June 23, 2003. This is a week before International.

It is decision time. Check you calendar and let folks know on Monday. Then we need to learn (or relearn) the two anthems.

Singout Successful.

Our Singout last Friday was a success, with a pretty good attendance, and appreciative audience and some money earned for the chorus.

Thanks to all who participated.

International Pins now on sale!

Get your souvenir lapel pin for the 2003 International Convention. They are on sale for $7.50 CDN or $5.00 US.

If you need a pin, or will be going somewhere that you can sell some of these pins, ask Ron Schurman, Murray Phillips, or Steve Wheaton for some. The money we raise will be very helpful in financing the extras we want to do during the Convention.

Jean Denis passes away.

Bob Denis told us this week that his father, Jean had passed away. Jean Denis, a former member of the South Shore Saints and the Montreal Mountain City Chorus, was looking forward to this summer's International Convention. He will have a front row seat with the heavenly barbershop boosters.

Mr. Denis was 81. As Bob said, "Heaven's bass section will be even more thunderous now that he has joined their ranks."

Missing Children's Network Walk of Hope

The Missing Children's Network Canada, in collaboration with CJAD/MIX 96, is proud to announce that its annual Walk of Hope will be held this Saturday, May 31st, 2003.

Pledge forms are available from Alan MacKenzie.

International News (7 weeks to go)

Is anyone in the Chapter involved in the graphics industry? We are going to need some signs produced for International, and we will also require a source for signs on short notice during convention week. If you know of someone that can help, please speak to Murray Phillips.

During convention week, we are recommending that all volunteers, except those needing their cars for the job they are doing, use public transportation. As you know, parking downtown is expensive. We will have a very limited number of parking discount coupons. If you or one of your volunteers really needs parking, let Stan Blicker know.

A new Chapter in Florida.

Fifty-two men attended the initial fun-filled meeting of the Central Florida Chapter of SPEBSQSA, Inc. on May 8 at the American Legion Post 327.

Residents came from communities throughout Central Florida. Sunshine District Membership Vice President Dan Brinkman drove from Melbourne to render his support. The youngest singer for the evening was Glenn Knight, an 11th grader from Eustis.

Village resident Scott Werner accepted the position of music director for the newly formed chapter. Prior to his retirement from the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, DC, a few years ago, he was director of the Alexandria Harmonizers for more than 30 years - his favourite "hobby" in addition to singing in his church choir.

Chapter meetings will be held at 7pm every Thursday at the American Legion Hall on County Road 466 and Rolling Acres Road (just south of The Villages).

It's another place to visit while in Florida.
