Why do they put braille on the drive-thru bank machines?

A voice from the past - Doug Jenkins

After last week's mention of Rudi Flaig's courageous battle, Doug Jenkins sent an email asking to be remembered to Rudi.

He was transferred directly from Haiti last summer. It has been a year now and he likes it a lot. He was able to get to Montreal for a few days on the weekend this summer and barely had time to go and see Oryst Gudz. He feeds Doug a lot of news from the chorus.

Doug says, "I will certainly try to organise a way to drop in on a practise should I be able to wangle another trip to Montreal. A cappella singing is non-existent here but I still haul out my polecats and enjoy singing along.

"I will be sending a singing Valentine this year in Montreal so I'll contact you around that time.

"Peru is a fascinating place, lots of history and culture to explore. I am also responsible for Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile so I do a bit of travelling between countries.

I read the Mini-Pitch with great interest each time and can appreciate the tons of hard work and effort required by all to attain the heights you have risen to. I spent a week at the Canadian Open PGA golf tournament in Hamilton in September and was struck by the amount of work that the best in the world put into their games. Before and after the round, the practise tee was crowded with players fine tuning their shots. The win by Mike Weir at the Masters was a surprise to most but not to Mike Weir. He had already won it in his mind during the many years and untold hours of work he had previously invested in order to be at his very best when theopportunity arose.

The next time you have to stand for hours on the risers and repeat the same bar of music over and over again until it resonates with perfection, thinkof Mike Weir. Be capable of perfection when the opportunity arises.

Sing, be your best, and enjoy.

But mostly enjoy, life is very short.

Doug.
