October 24-26, 2003 District Convention Saratoga Springs, NY, Saratoga Springs City Center

Men are from earth. Women are from earth. Deal with it.

Rob Henry, may he Rest In Peace.

After hearing of Rob Henry's diagnosis with cancer earlier this year, we hoped and prayed that he would be restored to health, but it was not to be.

Rob passed away on September 4, 2003 after a courageous battle. It is obvious that his family is in a period of grief and mourning. His brother, Jim Henry, informed us of Rob's death as follows:

"Hello dear friends. This morning at 11:14 God called Rob home.

"Rob's pastor Eric Derks had just said a prayer with Rob, and Rob's nurse Mike happened over just at that moment to check up on him. The two of them, Mom, Sue, Geda (my wife) and I were all here with Rob and held his hand as he left us. That was a blessing. Lots of family and friends have been by to pay respects.

"It is a sad day, but we have so much to rejoice about. Rob's beautiful voice was matched by his beautiful spirit. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad, grandson, uncle, and friend. Most importantly we rejoice because Rob has now seen the face of Jesus, and he is cradled in God's arms. He can sing again and walk again. And he and our dad are back together again. I'll bet they've been singing all morning.

"There are no words to express the depth of appreciation we feel for all of you, our friends, who have prayed and sent messages of support these past few months. This is a difficult time, but you have eased our burden more than you'll ever know. I will soon write back with funeral details. I know that Sue would like donations sent to Ryan's trust fund in lieu of flowers.

"Thank you all and God bless...

"Jim Henry

"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)

This was followed by Jim's email regarding funeral arrangements:

Hi everyone. Thank you all so much for the kind words of support we've received. Please know that Sue is still receiving e-mail at getwell@gashousegang.com, so if anyone wants to write her I'm sure she'll appreciate it. Many of you have asked for the visitation and funeral details, so here they are...

Visitation:
Sunday 9/7 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm
Baue Funeral & Memorial Center
3950 West Clay St.
St. Charles, MO 63301 Tel: 636-940-1000

Funeral Service:
Monday 9/8 at 10:00 AM
First United Methodist Church
801 First Capitol Dr.
St. Charles, MO 63301 Tel: 636-947-4202

Of course we'd love to see any of you who might be able to come.

Rob's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the "Ryan Henry Trust Fund". [SEE "DONATION"]

I'm anxious to get this word out, but have very little time in which to do it, so if any of you could help me pass this news along to other barbershoppers (the SPEBSQSA staff, for instance) I would be most appreciative. And thank you all again for being such loving and supportive friends.

Jim Henry

Donation: "A lot of people have asked us the best way to help Rob and Sue with financial donations. Rob's employer (American Nationwide Mortgage) has sponsored a college trust fund for Rob and Sue's son Ryan who is two years old."

It has been suggested that a collection will be taken among the members of the Chapter, and that the Chapter also makes a donation in memory of our friend, Rob.

If you care to make a direct donation, please see the instructions below.

Mail To:
American Nationwide Mortgage
ATTN: Patrick Flynn
224 Mid Rivers Center

Make checks payable to: EDWARD JONES
Please write in the memo field: RYAN HENRY

On behalf of the Henry family and The Gas House Gang, we thank you ALL for everything you have done.

Tributes

There have been countless messages to the Harmonet offering personal memories of Rob, and memories of his singing. Many people recounted stories of hearing him sing, "I Still Can't Say Goodbye," a baritone solo with a poignant message and one he sang with love and heart.

The Applause Show with Rich Taylor and TJ Barranger devoted a large portion of the Thursday evening show to the memory of Rob Henry. The show is aired every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET

http://www.villageradio.com/ will connect you to the show.
