On Saturday, August 27, the Danbury chapter "Mad Hatters Chorus" are hosting a Chorus Directors' Workshop Intensive (CDWI). This is a full day conducting workshop for NED directors, and is one of the most effective tools we have for training our Society's directors.
The directors will spend the morning with certified CDWI trainers, talking about music, teaching, conducting, rehearsing, and trying to define what success looks like for them in their weekly rehearsals. By the end of the morning, the trainers have helped the directors define some specific items to work on in the afternoon session.
That's where you come in!
Rehearsing is fun, but it's much more fun with singers!
From noon to no later than 5pm, the directors take turns conducting a Real Live Chorus, and working on the things they chose that morning. The chorus is composed of YOU! Singers from around the area who are familiar with their Polecat (and near-Polecat) songs.
While the day is intended to help directors, I've found that the singers get about as much benefit out of attending as the directors do. You'll be asked to sing exactly how the conductor shows you to sing, then they'll be asked to make a subtle change, and you'll be blown away by the immediate results. What better way to learn how to be a better *chorus* singer than to come watch directors on the hot seat (for a change!) and learn what they've been trying to show you all this time!
If you're willing and able to spend your afternoon with us, and you're in the Danbury, Connecticut area, please contact the CHAPTER host chair:
Joseph Hudson (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The event will be held at:
Danbury Church of Christ (90 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, CT 06810)
Chorus singers: please arrive by 11:30 am and plan to stay until about 5pm.
