Harmony College Northeast is the NED's 2-day music-intensive educational weekend for ALL barbershoppers held at Worcester State University every summer.

Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced singer, Harmony College has something for you.

Throughout the weekend, classes are offered for singers, quartets, conductors, arrangers, and more!

Three Amazing Learning Tracks

  1. Classroom Learning -
    Our incredible faculty will deliver knowledge on a host of Barbershop harmony music and performance subjects.  You can pick the 5 topics and the teachers you will enjoy most.

  2. Gold Festival Chorus Experience -

    Enjoy singing a barbershop song with your peers in a chorus setting led by Deke Sharon and Sean Devine and perform it on the Saturday evening show. You can also pick 3 other topics and teachers you will enjoy from our all star cast.  This offering involves a modest extra cost ($4) for sheet music and learning tracks and requires learning the notes and words to your part before you arrive.

  3. Quartet Coaching -

    Your quartet will be challenged and inspired by our hand-picked staff of amazing coaches.  You will benefit from a highly skilled, unified panel that will help you get the knowledge you need to pick up your game.

HIGH LEVEL CLINICIANS

Deke Sharon

Heralded as “The father of contemporary a cappella" (Entertainment Weekly) and “A one man a cappella revolution" (Boston Globe), Deke Sharon is responsible for many movies and television shows behind the scenes (Pitch Perfect 1, 2, 3, & Bumper in Berlin, The Sing Off on NBC, Netherlands, China, South Africa), on camera (Pitch Slapped on Lifetime, Pitch Battle on BBC One), and the first a cappella musical on Broadway (In Transit).

He has written 7 books, thousands of a cappella arrangements, and founded many organizations including The Contemporary A Cappella Society of America, The International Championship of College A Cappella, The Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, BOCA: Best of College A Cappella, Contemporary A Cappella Publishing, Camp A Cappella.

He has won the PT Barnum award for excellence in entertainment and two lifetime achievement awards (A Cappella Music Awards & CASA).He has produced Gold & Platinum albums that have topped Billboard charts and won many awards (American Music Awards, MTV, OFTA) and nominations (Grammys, Dove awards).

He has been performing professionally since the age of 8. He has an annual concert at Carnegie Hall, and has shared the stage with many legends, including Ray Charles, James Brown, Pavarotti, Crosby Stills & Nash, Run DMC, The Temptations, LL Cool J, and the Monday Night Football Theme with Hank Williams Jr. for the 2011 NFL season. Sean Devine

Sean Devine brings 30 years of stage experience, design, and education to our barbershop community.  He is a sought-after coach and clinician, a certified Performance Judge (BHS), and a champion quartet singer with OC Times.

Born and raised in "The Sweetest Place on Earth" — Hershey, Pennsylvania, Sean began his professional career touring with America's Premier Doo-Wop Group, The Alley Cats.  While living in Southern California, he served in music leadership with the Masters of Harmony, was part of the founding team of the Westminster Chorus, and became a Disneyland Cast Member with the Dapper Dans.

For the last 10 years, Sean has sung lead with Throwback, a 7-time International Quartet Medalists, and is currently the Artistic Director and Founder of Parkside Harmony (5-time International Chorus Medalists).

Justin Miller

Justin Miller is a sought after Choral Conductor, Arranger, Clinician, and Adjudicator.  Most notably, he was the Musical Director of the Westminster Chorus from 2008 to 2022. Under his leadership Westminster grew into an ensemble with a diverse repertoire while keeping its roots in Barbershop music. In 2009, Justin led the Westminster Chorus to the title of “Choir of the World” at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales, and to the International Chorus Championship of the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2010, 2015 and 2019. Justin also led the Masters of Harmony to an International Championship in 2017, and he currently directs Vocal Summit, an ensemble based out of Portland, OR. Justin recently received a Master of Music in Conducting from Portland State University and is now the Director of Choral music at McNary High School in Keizer, OR.

Justin is very active with ACDA, NAfME, in addition to the Barbershop Harmony Society.  Justin has a Choral Publishing Series with National Music Publishers and has had articles published in several publications.

Vincent Sandroni

Vincent Sandroni’s musical career began with 15 years in the Maryland State Boychoir, serving as a chorister and conducting intern. He graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor's of Science in Music Education and is currently pursuing a Masters in Educational Leadership at Loyola University of Maryland. Vincent has been the chorus teacher at Cockeysville Middle School in Baltimore County, Maryland since the Fall of 2014. In addition, he is an avid performer around Baltimore City and Washington, DC. Vincent sings tenor in the 2016 Youth International Barbershop Champion and 2023 International 9th Place Quartet, Pratt Street Power.  Along with that, he has served as the music director of the current 4th place International Bronze Medal Chorus, Parkside Harmony, since January of 2022. Outside of his normal musical commitments, Vincent has served as a guest clinician for youth events both national and international, private vocal coach, quartet coach, and teacher mentor.

Steve Scott

Steve Scott is the Director of Music Education for the Barbershop Harmony Society where he creates and curates educational material and music collections. A barbershopper for over thirty years, Steve taught voice and choir at the college level before joining the BHS staff. His research interests include the biophysiology of the singing voice, acoustics, and barbershop history. He is a certified Singing judge, a frequent faculty member for harmony colleges around the world where he teaches voice techniques and vocal pedagogy and is a clinician, voice teacher, and coach. Steve serves as the principal vocal coach of the 2022 international champion chorus, the Music City Chorus, in Nashville TN, and was recently appointed Artistic Director of the Saltaires men’s chorus in Salt Lake City, UT. He enjoys traveling and exploring the world with his wife and two children when not doing music.

Jim Clark

A Nebraska native, Jim has been around barbershop singing since he was 1 year old, and has been a Barbershop Harmony Society Member for 39 years.  He holds a B.A. in English from Nebraska Wesleyan University & an M.A. in English from Northwest Missouri State University.  While in college, he became a Central States District Quartet Champ & an International College Quartet Medalist. Jim is a Rocky Mountain District Quartet Champ(2002), the 2018 Rocky Mountain District Barbershopper of the Year, an 8-time International Chorus Medalist, and is the Lead of the 2010 Int’l Barbershop Quartet Champions, Storm Front. He is Director of the“America the Beautiful Chorus” in Colorado Springs and currently sings in a quartet with his two sons called, “3 Young Guys.”  Jim has also played leading roles in various musicals and plays over the years, most recently starring as Ebenezer Scrooge in a full musical production of ‘A Christmas Carol.’  He is the Director of Development for Harmony Foundation. 

And he credits his parents and his family for all his success.

Mike Maino

Mike Maino joined the Barbershop Harmony Society at the age of 10, encouraged by his Dad, Al, bass of the very popular quartet,The Neptuners, and his Mom, Jeanne, one of the founders of Harmony Inc. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was President of the Providence Chapter, had held every chapter office, competed in a quartet at International, and already MC'd over 50 shows.  As an MC, his experiences include hundreds of live stage shows that have taken him from California to London, Seattle to Bermuda, and just about every major performance venue in between, including Carnegie Hall five times. 

Mike has been honored to MC many international contests for the Society, Harmony Inc., and Sweet Adelines Int., as well as being known as the voice of SAI's Coronet Club.  He was also the only MC for the Bolton Landing Barbershop Festival. 

He has produced and MC'd the Block Island Barbershop Festival for over 50 years which has raised over a quarter million dollars for Island charities, and hosted the Society webcast for seven years.

Mike was presented with the Labar Award by the Barbershop Harmony Society which is given for Excellence as a Master of Ceremonies.

As a bass singer, Mike has won four NED Quartet Championships, which made 19 International appearances, and his Senior Quartets have made the International stage 16 times. As a member of the Narragansett Bay Chorus he won the NED, and competed at the International Contest 13 times. Between the chorus, quartets and International MCing, he has been on the BHS International competition stage over 60 times. He served on the NED BOD for a total of 16 years including President of the Northeastern District.

His voice is heard around the world on air, and the web, as an announcer for WCRI, 95.9, The Classical Station, where he is also the host of the long-running shows Conducting Conversations, Company Break, and American a Cappella. 

For almost thirty years Mike has resided with his wife Gail Jencik, a Sweet Adelines Int. Master Director, and world-wide Coach, at the Music Mansion in Providence RI.
